A FEW PICS OF CLASS I DID FOR FREE AT MY LOCAL LIBRARY. VIDS OF LECTURE TO COME SOON.

WILDERNESS SURVIVAL THEORY

KEY RULE:

You must first decide if you are going to stay or go because based on that decision you will either establish a base camp or set a series of temporary camps as you travel.

WARNING:

The main threats in a true survival scenario are:

• Hypothermia – The body can’t get warm enough and you remain to cold
o This one leads to freezing to death

• Hyperthermia – The body can’t cool down and you overheat
o This one leads to dehydration and death

COMBAT THESE WARNINGS:

To better ensure survivability, you must create a micro-climate to better control core-temp

LAW OF THERMODYNAMICS;

• CONDUCTION – when something touches your skin and effects you body temp
o Example – grabbing a hot coal or piece of ice

• CONVECTION – When something moves over you and effects temp
o Example – laying in a stream and water flows over you or the wind blows

• RADIATION – When a radiant wave travels toward you, effecting temp
o Example – Heat waves from a fire or cold air off a block of ice

FIRE BUILDING:

Fire must have three things to become sustainable:
1. Heat 2. Fuel 3. Oxygen

• In my experience most people rob a fire of oxygen and smoother it by adding to much fuel. Be patience!

Rule of Three’s SURVIVAL PRIORITIES

3 Min w/o Air FIRE, SHELTER, & WATER
3 hrs w/o shelter
3 days w/o water * THE SITUATION WILL DICTATE
3 wks w/o food WHICH IS MOST IMPORTANT
Some say 3 months w/o companionship

BUILDING A KIT: TEN “C” OF SURVIVAL

1. Cutting tool 6. Cotton Bandana
2. Combustion device 7. Compass
3. Cover 8. Candling Device
4. Container 9. Canvas Needle
5. Cordage 10. Cargo Tape
